The class is the product

Ready-mix is sold by compressive strength class, and that number is the whole specification. Class 15 and Class 30 look identical coming out of the drum. They differ by cement content, and they will differ by a factor of two in what they can carry.

Class 15, blinding, mass fill and pathways. Nothing that carries load.
Class 20, ground-bearing residential slabs and light foundations.
Class 25, the usual structural residential grade: suspended slabs, columns, beams.
Class 30, heavy foundations, transfer beams and water-retaining structures.

Your structural engineer specifies the class. We batch to it and give you the batch ticket. If somebody quotes you “concrete” without a class, they have not told you what they are selling.

Volume is calculated, not estimated

The commonest expensive error on a Nairobi pour is ordering by eye. Concrete is ordered in cubic metres and a slab is length times width times depth, but the depth is the part people get wrong, because formwork deflects and subgrade is never perfectly level.

We calculate from your drawings and add a realistic allowance rather than an optimistic one. Running short mid-pour is far worse than a small overage: you get a cold joint through a structural slab, and that joint is a permanent weakness in exactly the place you did not want one.

Access decides the method

A loaded truck mixer is heavy and long. Before we book a pour we establish how close it can get, and what happens if it cannot get close enough.

On the newer Kiambu Road and Thika Road schemes, estate roads and gate arches frequently will not take one, and the answer is a pump rather than a smaller truck. On established Karen and Runda plots the constraint is usually a soft verge or a culvert of unknown capacity rather than width.

What we tell you before you book

That the pour needs a slot and the slot needs the site ready. Concrete starts hydrating when it is batched, and a truck that waits an hour on your access road is delivering different material from the one that left the plant. Formwork checked, reinforcement fixed and inspected, and enough people to place and vibrate it, all before the truck is called.
