Four answers book a pour

A concrete order is a scheduled delivery rather than a callout, so the useful conversation is short and specific. These four answers let us quote it and slot it.

  1. 1. What class?

Class 15, 20, 25 or 30. Your structural engineer specifies it and it will be on the drawings. If you genuinely do not know, tell us what you are pouring and we will tell you what is normally specified, but the engineer's figure is the one that governs.

  2. 2. How many cubic metres?

Length by width by depth, or just send the drawing and we will calculate it. Depth is where estimates go wrong, because formwork deflects and subgrade is never flat.

  3. 3. What date, and what time can you start?

The start time matters as much as the date. On Mombasa Road and Thika Road the haul at seven and the haul at ten are different journeys, and the delivery interval is set from the real one.

  4. 4. What does the access look like?

The one people leave out, and the one that stops deliveries. Clear height at the gate, whether there is a culvert at the boundary, whether the last stretch is surfaced, and how far the truck would be from the pour. Answered now, a pump gets booked. Answered on the day, the concrete is already going off.

A photograph of the gate is worth more than a description

One picture taken from the road, showing the entrance and the first few metres of the approach, answers most of question four immediately. If it has rained recently, that picture is more useful still.
